(Elsevier)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abstract: This study analyzes the economic impact of the EU\u2019s renewable energy targets in transport using an optimization model covering bio- and electricity-based fuels, transport sectors, and policy requirements. Focusing on Germany, results show that imported alternative fuels are key to reducing fossil fuel use. The study highlights two challenges: the urgent need for vehicle electrification and, in the long term, increased research on new technologies for commercial transport.
