Abstract: This chapter examines international and European policy instruments promoting the decarbonization of maritime operations. It highlights the role of technological solutions, alternative fuels, and market-based measures (MBMs) in driving energy efficiency and environmental compliance. The analysis covers key frameworks, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations, and focuses on the EU’s policy instruments, particularly the EU Emissions Trading System (EU-ETS) and the EU Taxonomy.
