Future renewable energy targets in the EU: Impacts on the German transport

Author: D.E.Aliabadi et al. (Elsevier)

Abstract: This study analyzes the economic impact of the EU’s renewable energy targets in transport using an optimization model covering bio- and electricity-based fuels, transport sectors, and policy requirements. Focusing on Germany, results show that imported alternative fuels are key to reducing fossil fuel use. The study highlights two challenges: the urgent need for vehicle electrification and, in the long term, increased research on new technologies for commercial transport. Though based on Germany, the approach is applicable to other countries and models.
