Abstract: The blue economy encompasses various maritime activities, including shipping, fishing, offshore energy, and coastal tourism, contributing to economic growth and employment. Rooted in sustainable development principles, it promotes low-emission, resource-efficient, and circular economic practices that balance economic value with environmental protection. Recognized by global and regional bodies like the United Nations and the European Union, the blue economy supports social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Its legal framework is defined by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), guiding the sustainable use and protection of marine resources.
